Picking that Perfect Color

If you are going for a natural look, a nice nude lip color or even a shiny clear gloss is the way to go. It wont distract from your eyes or from the "natural look" you're going for.

Want bold and fancy? In this photo I was on my way to my brothers wedding and was wearing a bright coral shirt. I didn't want my lip color to clash so I could have picked any lip color that includes the same tone as my shirt. That means sticking to the pink tones. Since coral is closer to orange then purple, staying away from any blue undertones and searching for those with orange undertones will do the trick. I used a color called Ladylike from Younique found here.

If you want to spice up a natural look and perhaps look a little more bold., try a nice bold red or scarlet color lip gloss like I did in the picture directly above. In this situation (one of my favorites) you can't go wrong with a lip color! I was going more natural with beachy waves and a Casual jacket. I went with a Neutral eye (mostly just eye liner with some definition in the crease) and didn't need to worry about my lip color clashing or taking away from my eyes so I chose a nice solid dark red color.

Here are some tips I found here. I really loved these :)

1. Treat your lips like you would your face. Remove makeup, exfoliate, moisturize. Repeat.
2. When playing up your lips, keep your eye makeup minimal. Makeup is like a balancing act, pick one feature and go big. This is what I was talking about earlier with the bold lip.
3. Find the right color. Not all hues are created equally, at least for you. Different skin tones work better with different shades, so try a bunch on and choose wisely — a good lipstick is a forever kind of thing. (GREAT ADVICE! I CANNOT pull off brown lip colors but oh how I try)
4. Use a primer. Think super staying power through your meetings, lunch, and happy hour drinks. (My all time favorite primer found here)
5. Liner can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Find the right lip liner and it'll stop your lipstick from feathering throughout the day. Choose the wrong color, and you're channeling Gwen Stefani circa 1997. Our advice? Go for a clear lip pencil — it's silky smooth and compliments every lip shade.
6. Start in the middle. Begin applying lipstick at the center of your lips and move outward. That way, you'll be less shaky when it comes to the outer lines of your lips. Less shaky will result in fewer mistakes.
7. Highlight along your Cupid's bow. As well as along the middle of your lower lip. The small touch will reflect light and make your lips look nice and plump.
8. Timing is everything. If you're having casual drinks or dinner with your friends before a big night out, wait to put on your lipstick. You won't constantly be worrying about messing it up while you eat (which is the worst).
9. Take it off before you go to sleep. The only bad thing about having a clean, white pillowcase? It is a total lipstick magnet.
10. Always give yourself a day off. Let your lips stay au natural for at least one day a week and so you can slough off dead skin cells, moisturize, and have one glorious morning to sip coffee sans lipstick stains.

I use to be one of those people who would never wear anything but chapstick on my lips so I would suggest finding things that work best for you and having a lot of fun with it! Find a favorite color and get some different tones and shades and go nuts! It will really bring your look together.
